Khutala is located in the Chandrapur block of Chandrapur District. With 500 households, the residents mostly belong to Other Backward Class (OBC) and Scheduled Caste (SC) communities.
Residents are mainly daily wage labourers in coal mines and industrises.
The community has access to drinking water. The village has one primary and one secondary school. There is also one primary health centre.
Magic Bus initiated its Sports for Development session in Khutala on 2011 with 30 children.
The Panchayat at the community has been very supportive of the Magic Bus sessions. They have fully cooperated and have helped to get the grounds for community meetings and various tournaments.
"The thought of our child winning a sports tournament never came to our mind. Little Sakina was always a timid girl with no interest in sports", recalls Sakina's mother.
Sakina is the youngest among her siblings and has always been closely protected. She never opened up to people around her and would maintain a very low profile. Her parents enrolled her for the Magic Bus sessions hoping that she could make a few friends and enjoy herself.
Initially, she did not participate in any of the activities. During a rally on Right to Play in her community, she was nominated as the leader of her team. She lead her group well and was marching ahead of her team. In the next session, the Community Youth Leader (CYL) saw her participating in the activity.
With time, she warmed up to her teammates and made a couple of friends. She also developed a liking for kabaddi and eventually went on to win a tournament in her locality.
Magic Bus sport-for-development sessions are held on Mondays every week between 4.00 and 6.00pm. The sessions are structured in the following manner:
