Gandeed in the Ranga Reddy District is a village with 320 families, each with an average of 5 members. The community is primarily involved in the agriculture of rice, millet, maize and groundnuts. Normally, they grow about two crops a year based on availability of water. The minimum wage per day according to local government is INR 160. As these are seasonal cultivations however, the labourers do not have work every day. The overall family income is around INR 5,500 to INR 6,500 per month.
Gandeed is largely a community of Scheduled Castes, Tribes and Other Backward Classes (OBCs is a collective term, used by the Government of India, for castes which are educationally and socially disadvantaged - the government is enjoined to ensure their social and educational development). Some of the prominent ones include those from Mudhiraj, Kummari, Kammari, Sakali and Edgi (BC), Mala and Madiga (SC), Kapu, Munnuru Kapu, Mohummad and Sayad (OC).
The sanitation and hygiene conditions in the village are on par with the average conditions in neighbouring villages. Very few houses (pucca and semi-pucca mostly) have a toilet. The drinking water is supplied by Panchayat water tankers and bore wells. There is only one primary health centre in the village. Gandeed has one private and eight government educational institutions.
Magic Bus operations started in October 2011 in Gandeed with 30 children and local Community Youth Leaders (CYLs). The village, after the initial phase of doubt and inhibitions, eventually became very supportive of Magic Bus after much convincing by the local volunteers. The local leaders and the Panchayat have come forward and supported the programme as well.
Off the training field, we supplement our activities by working with the communities our children come from. Aside from regular meetings with children and parents, we also hold rallies, cleanliness drives and community-wide sporting events aimed at empowering and strengthening these communities.

• Main activity: The development goal is reinforced using sports and activities
• Review: A discussion is facilitated to draw parallels to real-life situations and sum up the learning objectives
