Block-B, Khadda Basti is in Suraj Park, near sector 18 in Rohini, Delhi. The houses here are mostly kuchha, locally known as jhuggi housing, made of materials scrounged from the surroundings. The area is not connected to a sewer system, forcing people to resort to open defecation.
People here earn their living form daily-wage work, which, in Delhi, amounts to the lowest-paid jobs.
The Magic Bus programme in Block B, Khadda Basti was started in 2011. Currently, there are about 75-80 children, with 60% girls. Rocky is the Training and Monitoring Officer in charge of the community. He is assisted by Youth Mentor Reena, and 13 CYLs, eight of whom are girls.
Recently, some children from this community attended the PVR Road Safety Workshop for Children. The Community Youth Leader also organised a Sports Day with different sports in April 2014. On May 4, 2014, a friendly football tournament was organised for the children.
A few of the areas of behaviour change addressed by Magic Bus volunteers and mentors include:
• Importance of personal and environmental hygiene
• Equal treatment of boys and girls
• Importance of education
• Respect for elders
Sport for Development sessions are held from Wednesday to Sunday and last for two hours. Sessions are divided into three parts:
